| no partners | | Looking for a hike nearby that we could complete before lunch. Goat Hill via Ranger has been on my "wish list" for awhile, so we hit it up. This was my first time hiking SM, west of Telegraph Pass. Decided to make it a loop, via National, Kiwanis, and Los Lomitas. Beautiful weather today, though the air was a bit hazy. I really enjoyed the views along the trail of the Estrellas and SW valley, from the Ranger/Nat'l junction to Goat Hill. Made me even more excited for a full ridgeline hike (...another one that's been sitting on my to-do list for far too long).
There were about 5 cars in the Ranger TH parking lot when we arrived (around 7 am-ish). Saw 7-10 hikers/trail runners on the way up. Had the Goat to ourselves for awhile, and then were joined by a couple of guys we passed on the way up, who were starting to train for their first GC trip in May. We descended the Goat and then took National East. Started to run into the masses as we approached Telegraph Pass, and continued down Kiwanis. Nobody on Los Lomitas, which was the most drab part of the hike. Ranger TH parking lot was filled to capacity when we got back.
Made pit stop at REI on the way home and picked up some new hiking shoes.
All in all, a great morning! |
