| no partners | | I was going to head up to Flatiron today but the weather decided not to cooperate. I sat at the saddle for a few minutes trying to get a feel for if the storm was coming or going. After a few minutes of the wind picking up, and a slight uptick in the the moisture in the air (or at least it felt that way), I decided it was best to go back down. A guy passed me at this point going up.
On the way back down I started to second guess my decision up until about 5 minutes from the draw area. The winds really picked up and I could see the storm was really turning towards the mountain. I started to boogie on down the rest of the way. When I approached the turnoff for the Gatekeeper I quickly assessed the situation. It seemed like the storm was still over Pass Mountain mostly so I went off trail to the base. I scampered up quickly to the top, spent about 4 minutes watching the storm begin to creep my way, and then headed back down.
Oh, and I saw a tarantula frantically trying to get off the trail, as it avoided the massive rain drops; I've never seen one move that fast before. |
