| partners | | sorry this is late but I got sick over the New Year's weekend.
Finally I got to attend the HAZ New Year's Day event. I was quite excited even though I'm way out of hiking shape due to an unfortunate end of 2015. But I was going to give it my best shot and I actually was pretty pleased with how I did. And it is amazing how much straight up there is; fortunately it's not too long but seemed longer on the way down. I am also going to defer to everyone else's trip logs as I think they all described it quite well. I will let my videos and pictures speak to you more about the adventure.
I only have to add: First, Ray was kind enough to be the sweeper today; that was very nice! Good first impression.
Second, "Who would think one could be so stuffed after eating 4 choc covered strawberries, 1 oatmeal cookie and 1 1/2 glasses of champagne on a summit?!" And then after we arrived back at the trailhead I ate 4 more choc covered strawberries and 1 more glass of champagne (as Ray said it was a long way to the highway ).
Here are the 3 videos that I shot, which isn't exactly easy due to the terrain. I did not use the youtube stabilizer on any of them this time because I was hiking very slowly. The zooms will be a bit shaky due to that and there are some other shaky moments but because this camera has such a good stabilizer (thank you Pany), the videos are not too bad. It was very windy so I had to use my High Pass filter which I think does a nice job of filtering the wind but letting you know it's windy without being too obnoxious to listen to.
Up we go - https://youtu.be/hP ... yGok
from the saddle, along the top, Happy New Year - https://youtu.be/Iq ... RJGo
down, down, down we go - https://youtu.be/oz ... K_pQ (I couldn't handle the wind noise anymore so this one has music; didn't turn out too bad though)
and if you're curious, here is the video (including pics) of our flight from GTF to PHX Gateway including over Lake Powell and Roosevelt Lake:
from GTF to southern Utah. Pretty good views of the Missouri River and the snow-covered landscape. I also got some sort of canyonland area as I spotted some sort of rock monument but I'm not familiar enough with the area, at first I thot it as Spider Rock but as far as I know, we weren't near Canyon de Chelly.

the second video (including pics) is from Lake Powell area, over Superstitions. I think some of you will recognize areas you have been to https://youtu.be/ex ... M3C8 |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
