Chilly start to the day but I was the only vehicle in the Mining Camp parking lot at 0700. Still a bit dark at this hour but the sun's out there somewhere Lots of haze (Fireplace smoke?) hanging around to spoil some early morning views of the darkened Siphon Draw and upper reaches of the mountain.
I was on the verge of shedding a layer, but as I hit the Slickrock Basin, I picked up a cool breeze coming down from the summit so I kept the layers where they are. Got to the top of the slickrock section and sat there for a few minutes looking up the trail to the saddle and back down. My wife cautioned me against going to the Flatiron solo but it felt so good to be here alone, no crowds, no loud music, no loud talking......it was a moment lost to the quiet of the mountain.... but I turned and began my descent.
Just as I was leaving the basin area, I began running into the groups heading up trail so I guess my timing was pretty good after all. On the way down, I paused to take some photos of the haze covering the top of the mountain and saw some movement from the area of the old Palmer Mine, turned out to be a herd? of 5 Mulies working their way through the brush. They were heading my way until a group heading up, spooked them and they headed back towards the old mine.

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip. |
