John Kelly and I wanted to put in at least 10 miles. That's a little to much for the South Mountain heat. We were thinking Mount Ord or this one. This one sounded a lot better. We just had to start early so I could be home to get some sleep before work.
We hit the trail before 6:00 am and it worked out pretty good. Old Baldy was in good shape and John set us a nice pace. We didn't hit sunshine until Baldy Saddle. That was ok with us. It dried out our shoes and clothes from the sweat and wet grass. A younger couple was coming off the summit right before we got there. Then an elderly couple joined us up top while we enjoyed a snack break. We enjoyed talking to them and made the snack break a long one :) .
From there it was down and around the Mountain. The back side trail has some overgrowth that is pretty scratchy but didn't draw blood. Zip on pants would have been good for here. Once back on the front side the trail was in pretty good shape and the hike down was enjoyable as well. The last mile did seem like two, though :) . Bellows, Baldy, and Sprung Spring had good water although Baldy wasn't using it's trough ;) . There was also a nice variety of wildflowers. Really enjoyable hike and company.
We topped it off with lunch in the town I can't pronounce. Sh... something. A place called Pub 22. They had some lunch specials that turned out to be pretty tasty. Turned out to be a great trip and I managed to get my beauty sleep too! :y:
