We've been wanting to wander the mesa on the east side of the Verde below the dam for awhile. This Sunday seemed to be the best time before the snakes come out. We finally found an area with plenty of shards with mano and metate pieces. Good agricultural zone with many raised gardens and check dam sites. Watching the otter go down the river was pretty cool along with watching our dogger run into a blue heron and having the bejeebers scared out of her was great. The thing was huge.
