| no partners | | On this day, Father's Day and the last day of my 59th year, I hoped to make an attempt at Humphrey Peak. Alas, my family, the elements and even an Uber ride all conspired against me. I settled for a walk around some trails near the hotel. My mood soon brightened as I strolled through the pines. I came upon an open meadow and was greeted with the sound of coyotes announcing my presence. As I looked in their direction, I spotted 8-10 elk grazing in the distance. Soon after I came upon 5 mule deer grazing a mere 100 feet away, paying no heed that I had stopped to watch them. Beautiful.
I headed back to the hotel, woke up my wife and son, and went out for breakfast. By now I was quite happy that I wasn't slogging up a steep mountain under a warm sun with smoke from the Kendrick fire possibly choking the air. Maybe next time.
