| partners | | I joined Bruce and Denny on a beat the heat getaway hike on the Weatherford trail from the Schultz Pass trailhead. Nice trail, good tree cover and a friendly grade. Denny pointed out that the elevation gain was consistently in the 300-400 feet per mile range. That's just about perfect for me.
This hike starts above 8000 feet and keeps going up. That part is not perfect for me. Bruce knows that and told me to bite off as much as I could chew. On this day, I got a good bite; I made it higher than I have ever hiked before. Doyle Saddle, my turnaround point, tops out around 10,800 feet. Alas, it was Doyle and done for me. I told Denny and Bruce to continue on as long as they liked. I would wait for them here.
Fan was at Doyle Saddle, setting up camp while waiting for some friends who were hiking up Inner Basin. We all chatted for awhile before my hiking partners continued on to Fremont Saddle. I found a shady spot, ate lunch and got comfy. Wasn't a bad wait. Fan and I chatted off and on and several other hikers stopped briefly at the saddle to chat. The views are pretty good up here, too. Not a bad place to hang out.
Wonderful day and a great hike. Bruce and Denny, great to see you again. Good times as always! Fan, it was nice meeting you! |
