| partners | | Kelly invited John and I out for a trek around the Miners Needle Loop. I love this loop and was happy to accept.
I did this loop for the first time about four years ago and again a couple of years ago. The first time, in October 2013 on a blustery day under clear blue skies, was one of the more enjoyable hikes I had been on. I was a relative newbie to the Superstitions then and simply had a blast that day.
Four years later, it still has appeal. Nice trails, beautiful vistas all along the route, lots of history, and opportunities galore should you want to add to your hiking pleasure. I just wish it would rain so I could stop and smell the petrichor once in awhile. We passed one small pool of water in the slick rock area near Barks canyon. Dry everywhere else.
The weather was cool at the start, but promised to be warm later on so I brought 3.5 liters of fluids with me. I needed only one today. I haven't hiked with anyone since June or July, so it was nice to have a conversation with people instead of muttering to myself like I often do.
Great hike, great day and even better company. Kelly and John, thanks for inviting me along. I had a great time! |
