| no partners | | Went to see the fall colors, and knock off another section of the Arizona Trail.
My Trail Angel Extraordinaire, daughter, and granddaughter dropped us off at the Snowbowl Parking lot, then drove down, and around to FR418, and started hiking up to meet us.
My son-in-law volunteered to hike with me. He kept a very good pace. I never had to wait for him.
There were a TON of people; both parking lots were full. I guess we picked the wrong weekend. It appeared the RR 5K was going on? Once we got off the Aspen Nature Loop, the mass of humanity lessened somewhat, and became easier to bear. Lots of bikers - all of which were kind, personable and friendly. One biker stood out - he had his dog running with him as he tore down and then later, back up the trail. Impressive dog!
We lucked into meeting three ladies - thru hikers that started at the Utah border - that were stopping in Flagstaff. I had a nice chat with them for a few minutes. They didn't give me any trail names, so they will have to remain anonymous.
The fall colors were great, but past prime. There were a lot of yellow aspen leaves on the ground. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the hike and fall colors very much.
The trail itself was in very good shape. No need for a GPS on this section. All junctions were clearly marked, and carsonites and tree "confidence" signs were abundant.
