Mazatzal Peak has been on our list for a while, and we decided the weather would be cool enough to get it done today. Got started up Y Bar a little after 7:00 am. Nice cool temps from the start, and it was a nice walk up to the saddle. I stubbornly insisted I retrace my route from last year, but someone else decided to immediately get creative through the manzanita. Scrambling up the rocks along the ridge is always fun, and it can be as easy or difficult as you want. I went with easy, Dallin decided to go with difficult, and sent his trekking pole over an edge and out of reach. Getting through the manzanita at the top of the ridge was tougher than I remember, but we made it through okay and then headed over to the summit. Had a lunch break, took some pics, then headed north to the come down the drainage. The drainage is fun, and by walking at the back, it was easy to get through with Nick and Dallin breaking obstacles out of the way. The last bit of the drainage before reaching Barnhardt is a little tedious with all the loose, basketball sized rocks, but once we reached Barnhardt, it was an easy walk back down to the trailhead. Great day, with perfect fall weather!

Long past peak, but some maple color in the drainage on the north side of the peak.
