Used it for the portion I did not need it for because after a little over a mile just past the turnoff from hieroglyphic trail noticed my battery was at 35% , wanting to save it for photos and ice decided to turn it off . From their triplog recalled the directions to take a right or east turn at the balanced rock and looking for the faint use trail and bingo it was found, I then followed it to the peak only difficulty was with some boulders to go over just below the peak not sure if it that portion was the best way. Weather was great today and air quality was good. Once on top the views were excellent , the ammo box was left open, signed in and after some repairs to the bent portion it closed up tight.Proceeded down to the ridgeline trail ,said hello 2 hikers doing the ridgeline on the way to carney springs, only others I saw today. Had a snack break on the ridgeline at its junction with hieroglyphic canyon before heading down. Apparently blue paint was on sale as many rocks are spray painted from the ridgeline, sometimes 3 or 4 within a 50 foot stretch, to about halfway down to the bottom of the canyon and then orange ribbons in the vegetation the rest of the way. I was up here last spring and this stretch of trail had not been ruined.Small amounts of water in the upper and lower pools, lots of kids with their parents crawling on the petroglyphs, ugh. Did some wandering in the canyon and since I did not stay on planned track not sure about the mileage today.Really enjoyed the portion from the balanced rock to the peak. |
