| no partners | | I've been wanting to do Quartz Peak for a long time. A co-worker suggested going years ago and emailed me an article about the trail. We never found time to go, but I've been thinking about it ever since then. Finally after nearly 20 years I got around to doing it, and it was everything that I was hoping it would be. The terrain was steep, rugged and pristine. It was also a long long steep hike. Most of the way the trail was easy to follow. Only the last half mile was a little tricky on the way up, but there were helpful cairns that marked the way. The view from the peak was amazing, and so was the sense of accomplishment for making it to the top. It was a warm and sunny day, but the white quartz stayed very cool and was refreshing to relax on, so we took a long break at the top before heading back down again. South Mountain looks tiny from the top of the Estrellas! I'm so glad I did this hike! Cross another one off the wish list.
The dirt road to the trailhead coming from the North isn't too rough, but it is very sandy and I wouldn't do it without 4WD. |
