When starting a hike early in the morning in February gloves are a good thing to have, I did not. Eventually my hands warmed up. It was a very quiet almost cloudless morning. The silence broken only by the sounds over an occasional plane overhead. The trail started out rocky then soon gave way to smoother footing. It stayed fairly smooth for most of the length that I hiked. The trail does provide nice views to the north and northwest. A few areas where there were numerous saguaros provided photo oppurtunities. With no mileage marking on the trail signs I had no idea how far that I went. I passed the powerline and crossed 2 washes and the trail was ascending slightly in a NW direction when it was time for me to head back. The only description for this section that I could find was in Day Hikes In and Around Phoenix by Roger Freeman. Based on that I surmised that I hiked about 2 miles out. The return trip was a bright one as I also left without a hat. A few bike riders were out and saw one trail runner who was probably getting ready for the trail race next weekend. Anyway it was a good hike and I hope to try one of the other trailheads eventually. |
