Don't remember exactly how it came about but Grasshopper (Hank) invited me to his and Larry's camping adventure in the Sierra Ancha Bull Canyon area. My weekend evolved and I decided I would come up and hike and camp; I love this area so looked forward to it before it becomes blazing hot.
Got up there early; we were to meet at the TH but I spotted the back window of an FJ cruiser so found the camp. Nice to meet Larry and see Hank again.
They had had a couple of days of hiking so were wanting an easier day of exploration and I was fine with that. I have been in this area several trips but it had been a while. I don't usually hike with others so this was a treat. It was interesting observing all the technical interactions with GPS and so on. I don't use one so just head out and see where I get.
We had a nice hike up onto a ridgeline with great views. Most of the photos I took were camp sunrise the next morning and a little hike I did solo later. The sun was high and most views washed out, and everything was very dry which was a little depressing when I remember hiking here before there were little pools in the slickrock.
We returned to camp and Hank treated us to a wonderful dinner. I got up early to see the meteor shower but it was kind of a bust. Sunrise and early light was nice so I just hiked around camp for views.
Breakfast, then I took off and left them in camp. I had a destination, then got deterred. Drove down a road which ended then I off trailed it to another old road opposite a mining area I had been to years ago. At the big pour off, found a constructed cattle trail on the opposite side. Went to an interesting area with an intersection of small pathways lined with rock. Nice views into the canyon. I continued on now game trails above the abyss, went high and rounded a point, found a nice little arch, and a cairn which I think is rancher constructed or miner, a break in the cliffs here allows you to get up on top away from the steep loose stuff.
I wandered around here and considered going to a point of interest but it was getting hot and I had get homeitis.
I went off the ridgeline into a gully to come back to the trail area. There were some rock piles in a wide area that looked suspiciously grave like in shape and the way the rocks were stacked; I saw three piles that I knew were arranged. I hooked up with the old trail and bushwacked back to the Jeep. Drove down the main mining access wanting to drive the road in the bottom, defeated at a spot that would take some work or dent a fender on the Jeep, saw Hank hiking around again, spoke to him, then took off.

Nice weekend and it was very nice to see these two gentlemen, enjoyed the hiking, conversation and the FOOD!
