Wanted something close to home and not too many hours, just get out and away from endless yard work. Headed South. Rude awakening when the normal route the rancher had closed and gated. Some chicanery of about a 5 mile detour got me in, and access to the Forest service road. Drove past a stinky cattle tank and parked and hiked down a canyon, nice water in a developed well area, and some flowers about. Although dry the canyon had one small pool and evidence of damp sand in a lot of places. Found some crazy rock and explored that. Walk back to car saw a newish claim marker and a failing dam downstream of road. Drive out the cattle had decided to lay all over the road at the tank, but slow creeping the FJ persuaded them to move. They didn't run,seemed to think I might have some hay for them. Nice drive out and now to finish the day's chores.
