| no partners | | I've been to Baby Canyon (on Perry Mesa) a few times, but I read something recently which said there were a lot of petroglyphs there, and, well, I wouldn't have said that. So I thought I'd just go look a little harder.
Bloody Basin Road has gotten some TLC which is nice to see. I didn't drive it as far as usual, stopping north of the canyon with a short walk to the edge and then down and up. My plan was to focus on some creek drops as likely places; I found the first one was a reasonable way to climb to the south side but no glyphs or metates. I contoured over to one of the main ruins finding plenty of pottery and a couple grinding features along the way. I worked the periphery of the ruin a little harder than I had in the past and did find some more petroglyphs. Nothing great but the fish were biting.
I went to the other main ruin and also searched that area with a little energy and found a lot of new-for-me glyphs. Very strong emphasis on deer and bighorns. Crossed back across to the car (a little warm on that last climb) and now I would say there are a lot of petroglyphs at Baby Canyon. |
