REI van was dropping off backpackers for the weekend as I arrived, going up Bluff Spring trail passed a scattered group of 15 day hikers on their way to do the Needle Crosscut, saw no one else until back on #104. Nice to see water at least in pools in Barks Canyon and BS canyon, checked out bluff spring itself after the summit , it was dripping at about a pint a minute , filled buckets there were iced over. Took a route up to the summit similar to last year taking off from Bluff Spring trail at the “Williams Camp” , not sure who Williams was. Some mild scrambling and vegetation dodging required going this way, to return meandered across the plateau to the Ely-Anderson route down to to Crystal Springs then followed the Dutchman back.Beautiful weather and as always gorgeous views from the summit, still some snow on the north facing slopes, no ill effects yet from the snow cone I had up top. Not sure if the first to summit this year but I was first to log an entry for 2019, looks like about 20 entries for 2018, the pen I left last year was still working! A new item the nice memorial photo left by Tibber, per her Feburary triplog, remains in good condition, but a couple of new ziploc bags are needed. Came across a few weekend backpackers as I headed into Peralta trailhead finishing an enjoyable hiking day. |
