On Sunday, Michael, Aldo, Marilyn, Ben, Marilyn, and I hiked the Pine Creek Loop and a portion of the Ballantine Trail. I made it out somewhat beyond Boulder Flat before turning back.

Early on, the trails were mostly clear of the snow that accumulated on Thursday and Friday of the previous week. Higher up, however, snow covered the trail in places. Despite the wetness, the trail was firm and not especially muddy. The snow was wet and heavy. We saw broken tree branches and brittlebush plants that had been somewhat flattened by the snow.

When we arrived, there were around dozen cars in the lot, the most I've ever seen there. On the trail itself, I saw more hikers in that one day than I've seen in at least half a dozen trips to the same area.
