Starting from the Cross F trailhead, my wife and I hiked the connector trail (from Old Beeline Highway) to the Arizona Trail. At that junction we turned south, hiking for a little over 4 miles along the Sunflower Trail. When we returned, we took FR393 back to Old Beeline Highway.

I enjoyed the 1.33 mile section of single track south of the junction (with the connector trail and the Little Saddle Mountain Trail). Unfortunately, after this point, the trail becomes a double track / road until the road branches off to the Diamond Ranch. After that, the trail becomes a single track again, which made me happy. We turned around perhaps 3/4 mile from reaching SR87 though, so I can't say what the southernmost section of the trail is like. My wife found that the double track was easy to hike though, so she was happy with that section.

We had views of Mount Ord along the way where we could see evidence of fire damage from the Bush Fire of 2020. However, we did not see any (localized) evidence of that fire along the sections of the Sunflower Trail that we hiked.

Aside from a Trail crew - working on a Sunday! - and a hiker who had started from the trailhead at the Bushnell Tanks sign, we met no one else along the trail that day. (Well, we did encounter a truck driving down FR393 on our way back.)

I found this to be a peaceful hike with okay-to-good views. The trail is in good condition and route finding is easy. There are several branches off of the road / double track section of the trail. If you don't see an Arizona Trail sign shortly after passing one of these junctions, you're probably going the wrong way. There are markers at several of these junctions though which means that you probably won't go wrong.
