| no partners | | Kay, Diane, Diane, Nanci, Anne, Karin, Ben, Marilyn, and I hiked out to Battleship Mountain and back. Kay, Diane, Karin, and I went to the summit. (A women's hiking group based in Rio Verde invited me to lead this hike. I invited a few of my friends to come along too.)
This was my first time to the summit of Battleship Mountain. It was easier than I expected it to be. There is now a pretty well defined trail w/ cairns leading there and back. I had loaded the GPS route onto my watch and, though I referred to it every now and then, I didn't really use it to figure out where to go when we went to the summit.
Those who came with me were fearless, which definitely helped.
I'm not certain that we took the best or easiest path to the top - the one spot which I thought to be doubtful did have a cairn at the top of the wall though - so perhaps it was the right way. It didn't match the route shown on my watch though. I thought that we might look for an easier way on the way back, but we ended up retracing our steps (pretty much) the entire way.
Loads of fun though - highly recommended! |
