Lloyd joined me for Friday's hike in the McDowells. He told me up front that he's 70 years old with a pacemaker. However, he's been doing some serious hiking recently and was ready for a hard hike.

We did a big loop starting with part of the Lost Wall Loop. Once we got to Tom's Thumb Trail, we headed down and then down some more on the East End Trail. Part way down EE, another hiker named Danny joined us. When we got to Windmill, we turned left and then left again on Coachwhip. Now in MMRP, we turned left again on Pemberton and then again on Boulder, which brought us back to the Preserve. Danny headed back to the parking lot while Lloyd and I went on to do the loop on the Marcus Landslide Trail - Lloyd told me that it'd be too short of a hike if we headed straight back at that point. Once we finished the loop, we did head back. I offered to extend the hike to 12 miles which was what Lloyd was shooting for, but he admitted that he was starting to get tired as we made our way back.

We saw many other hikers on our way. While in MMRP, we saw a few mountain bikers too.

We saw lots of flowers, especially brittlebush and poppies.

The trails were all in good condition, though Danny felt that the East End Trail was a bit loose.
