| no partners | | This hike went up the Old Baldy Trail to the Mount Wrightson summit, and then we took the Super Trail back, making a figure 8 loop out of the hike.
However, on the way back, about halfway between Josephine Saddle and the TH, we went off of the Super Trail onto a social trail that went down Fern Canyon with its running creek. We eventually made our way to the Kent Spring Trail, and from there went to Kent Falls. We made our over a ridge and got back on the Super Trail not too far from the TH.
On my previous 2 trips to Mount Wrightson I went out and back on the Old Baldy Trail. I like this figure 8 loop better, and the diversion through Fern Canyon and to Kent Falls was a nice bonus. While the descent down the Super Trail was longer than going back on the Old Baldy Trail, the Super Trail descent was much more gradual, the views were nicer, and the trail was much less rocky than the Old Baldy Trail. There is more sun exposure on the Super Trail than the Old Baldy Trail, so in warm/hot weather the Old Baldy Trail might be the preferable one to take. Otherwise, I prefer descending on the Super Trail. |
