Wright on! This figure 8 loop in the Santa Rita's has been on my to-do list for some time, and I finally decided today was the day. Turned out to be a perfect choice. Weather was fantastic--cool, but not cold on the way up; warm, but not hot on the way down.

Did not expect so much tree cover/canopy hiking on the Old Baldy trail. I did expect the aeg, and this hike delivered, with a solid grade from the beginning right on up to the top. The steepest section was the switchbacks just below Baldy Saddle.

I was impressed with the trail construction, particularly from Baldy Saddle to the summit. I kept expecting it to get super rocky and require some scrambling, but the trail snakes its way methodically all the way to the summit.

Expected some breeze on the summit, but it was pretty still. There were a handful of others up there when we arrived, but they left while we were eating lunch, so we enjoyed some solitude on the summit.

Took the Super trail on the way down. Again, trail construction on this one is great. Much more gentle on the descent. Great views. Not sure why the name--we speculated it was short for: Super gradual; super smooth.

All of that said, we were ready to be done about 2.5 miles before we reached the trailhead. Seems to be a common occurrence on longish hikes where the adrenaline rush is mostly over when you reach the summit.

All in all a great day on the trails.

I need to get down the Tucson area more often.

**Springs were bone dry, other than Sprung Spring, which had a full catchment box and was continuing to produce.
