| no partners | | This was day #3 of hiking in southern Arizona, and I went on one of my favorite hikes in AZ: a figure-8 loop hike up to Mount Wrightson.
We took the Old Baldy Trail up to the summit. We started early enough that we were in shade most of the way up. After hanging out at the summit and enjoying the views, we initially descended on the Old Baldy Trail. Shortly before getting to Baldy Saddle, we took the Super Trail and looped around Wrightson until we got back to the Old Baldy Trail at Josephine Saddle. I really like this descent -- it is a gentler descent than going back the Old Baldy Trail, and you have a nice view of Josephine Peak and Mount Hopkins along the way. There was a lot of cloud cover on the descent, and there were a few sprinkles of rain.
Once we got to Josephine Saddle, we took the Super Trail back down. Along the way we went off-trail down through Fern Canyon, and we enjoyed walking along the South Fork of Kent Creek. Along the way we stopped off at Rogers Rock and Kent Falls. There was still a decent water flow at the falls. We then took the Pipeline Trail back to the Super Trail and went the short distance back to the TH.
This is a great hike, and it was my 5th time up on Wrightson. One of the folks that I hiked with -- Tucson Bill -- did Wrightson for his 240th time! |
