Route Scout GPS Route Recorded on Route Scout View
had planned on a 5 miler in Spur Cross to check out the Jewel color but when I got out of the vehicle and put on my vest, it was still too cold; mostly because of the wind. So on to Plan B which was here. It was still windy but didn't seem quite as cold. Weather seemed tenuous.

I started at Ocotillo and went clockwise and hiked that little connector that runs north south that eventually gets you to the saguaro that indicates your optional directions. I swung east on Sidewinder and remembered there was a nice little hill to climb; I looked forward to it and I actually passed a couple people. I looped around clockwise and then headed back down the hill and east on Sidewinder.

Ran into quite a few hikers, dogs, and bikers. Everyone seemed in a good mood, lots of hellos and even a couple Merry Christmas's. The trail is in superb condition. I was wearing my old boots for the last time. I thot they might work for these local hikes but nope. I did kick off some rocks. It was clear out today so got good long views; had to stop and snap some pictures. Plus the saguaros have their snow hats on now too. From a distance they look somewhat white altho up close the needles are more golden.

I forgot to mention that the drive on the Sonoran Desert Roadway you get to see the results from this summer's fire (closest to Cave Creek Road). It doesn't look very good; can't remember how many desert acres were burned. Okay, I think that's all I wanted to remember.
And then it was to the store to pick up some Proseco for some Cranseco (my own cranberry au jus and proseco) at my brother's house tomorrow. Ironically, the sushi gal was from the Basha's store by where I work and today was her first day at the Cave Creek/Tatum Safeway, so it was nice to see her there. I don't normally shop at this store except when coming back from a hike.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
