Route Scout GPS Route Recorded on Route Scout View
It was going to be a cold one and it sure was to start. Luckily, the bar on top wasn't as windy or cold. Pam sent some of us up with the champagne and snacks before we started on our way. The group size was pretty amazing which made for fun photos providing great scale both as we went up and then at times when we were spread out. Can't recall the last time I hiked with such a large group. The harem is pretty fast so they were the first everywhere. Altho Terry hung back at times to hike with the rest of us HAZers.

It's funny on the elevation profile it didn't look that steep but it was. Fortunately though, it was short. However, there were a few times when I felt very close to the ground in front of me  . The cholla weren't as bad as feared nor was the slipping since the dirt was soft from all the rain. This was particularly helpful when we hiked back down.

People would stop from time to time to get in a few words and then continue the mission. I tried to position myself to get some good movies and photos. The light today was a bit difficult at times but I just worked with it. It was also very windy so my videos will have extra music in place of the intense wind noise. Fortunately, our own LosDosSloFolks can be heard on all three videos (I credit him so that you know when it's his song). Greg has been letting me use his wonderful guitar music for a couple months now.

On the way down we took a different route once at the end of the ridgeline. I enjoyed the scenery here and we got to see some cool rock formations and some great saguaros. But there was no climbing over the fence this time; instead we had to go under. As we got closer to the road it opened up a bit so it was a very nice that last little bit.

It was great to finally meet Greg and the newly retired Cathy. It was also good to hike with Todd, Garth, Rob and Tom whom I had never met. Would have liked to have more time to ask more questions. The "Tibber" likes to know the rest of the story. :) And this was my second hike with Joe, the last time being at this event two years ago. I always enjoy our quick conversations; learn something new every time. And it was nice to hike with Larry, Ray and Pam again; even if it's only once a year, it's better than not at all. Anyway, it turned out to be a grand day and a great way to start off 2020.

I've included some of the other participants photos as well, thus the videos are a little longer. Sometimes the photos, movies may seem out of order but the other HAZers were sometimes at other parts of the trail from where I was at the time.

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
