Parked at the large parking area across from the Cross F trail head and noticed the new fenced in camping area @mazatzal had mentioned in a recent triplog, looked nice. Only several vehicles parked so plenty of room.
Headed up FR393 and past the AZT trail junction, all new area from that point. Cool temps at the start but it warmed up very quickly. Because of the time of year, we made the early decision to stay on the two-track trails on this first trip. Even some of the two-track trails were overgrown with up to 2 feet of grass which makes you wonder what's slithering underneath Checked out several springs and corrals along the way and really enjoyed the mixed terrain, wildflowers, and views. Solitude was great as expected. There was a camp setup at Upper Alder Spring but saw no people, and we only passed one quad while walking FR393. Finished the loop via Trail 344/AZT.
Great day out exploring a new area. Will definitely return during cooler temps to explore more off trail in this area. |
