Humphreys Summit Trail #151

The goal today, a lofty one for me, was Humpreys Summit. When I reached Humprheys saddle, I took stock of things and decided that the saddle would be the end of the line. My legs were okay but, like Wednesday on Inner Basin, I reached a junction with the Weatherford trail gasping for air. Three days of acclimation wasn't enough or I was just not fit enough for the task. Or both. I'll keep working on the latter.

This was still a big deal for me. I reached the highest altitude ever on a hike.

I had the saddle to myself for about 15-20 minutes, the benefit of a 5:10 am start. The weather was absolutely perfect. Bright sunshine, not a cloud in the sky with just a slight breeze. I was euphoric.

The trip down was most enjoyable. I was in shadows almost all of the way up. Having bright sunshine peeking through the trees on the way down made the trail stand out and lifted my spirits even more. I can't remember a more enjoyable hike down a steep mountain trail.

An absolutely wonderful day.
