| partners | | After our hike last Tuesday, Mark and I planned to hike again today. Mark drafted a nice loop cobbled together from previous hikes in the area. When he put a name to the hike, "Saguaro Lake Bluffs Loop," , I thought for a moment that this might be a trail. It sounds like a good name for a trail. I even briefly considered asking if shorts would be okay . But I knew better. Mark might hike on a trail for a short time, but that's only so he can get to his off trail route sooner. So I dressed for bushwhacking.
Mark and I drove out together this time. We spend enough time side by side, and face to face, on hikes. Why should it matter if we sit a couple of feet apart in a vehicle? Then again, Mark wears a neck gaiter when he hikes so he's probably safe anyway. To be sure, however, we did wear masks on the drive out and again on the way back.
We parked at a cut out just after turning onto Butcher Jones road. We started our hike there, dropping down into a gulley and then ascending a few hills until we reached the bluffs overlooking Saguaro Lake. We continued east along the bluffs until we were above the Butcher Jones recreation area. From there, we descended in a drainage/use trail down into the park, stopping briefly to use the facilities, then headed back to our vehicle. The return was uneventful, taking advantage of washes and best available terrain. Time for some chit chat.
The weather was gorgeous at the start and got better as the breeze picked up. Thank you again, Mark. It was a great morning! |
