Mark and I were getting reacquainted earlier in the year when current events caused me to seek solitude for awhile. I've had enough of that; I'd rather be hiking with friends.
We crossed the road and headed east towards a saddle north of Lone Mountain. About .6 miles in, we connected with the Lone Mountain Circumference Trail, which we would follow for another 3/4 of a mile before turning north to finish a loop Mark put together. As we came over the saddle, the early morning view was amazing. Marred somewhat by smoke from the Sawtooth fire, but still amazing.
The rest of the route was a simple off trail meander that is what I enjoy most about hiking with Mark. No trails, not another soul in sight. We saw a few night hawks, or maybe the same one criss crossing about, and some other critters skittering off before we could make them out. Probably rabbits or jack rabbits. No snakes, which I expected but which I am always glad to avoid. We made the best use of game trails, washes and open areas, up the occasional rise to get some views.
As always, robust conversation about anything we wanted to, but today we focused on the riots. A nation divided. it feels like the 60's again, without all the hair.
Good to see you again Mark! |
