About a year and a half ago my friend and I had went on a mountain bike ride as a pre-run of the whiskey course for him. My friend wanted to do an extra loop so I took a brief nap on a park bench(true hobo style) in the Thumb Butte parking area. Ever since then I have been wanting to go back to do the trail to the top. I finally got a chance. However, the night before I read the trail description and thought about not going. I did go and I did enjoy it. It was a short hike, that was the ne downside, but for me it was a good climb. I really did enjoy it, but I do wish there was less black top on the trail. I think it would have been better all dirt, but this seems almost like a city park trail for the people of Prescott.
