| no partners | | My friend invited me to hike with him and his daughter on Vulture Peak. I have never been here and it looked interesting so I agreed. I did about 10 minutes of research and learned that there are 2 trail heads, 1 is easy to get to and the 2nd required 4wd. I also noted that the hike to the saddle is a decent trail, and the final stretch to the peak might be different and I had no idea what they had planned.
I was able to convince them to park his Kia Optima at the lower trail head and for us to take my Jeep to the upper trail head. I knew this would shorten our hike, but I also enjoy scenic drives. I would note that this short 1.4 mile of Jeep trail is a true you need 4 wheel drive trail. Judging by the camping area and the tracks this is area is popular with the side by side crowd. The upper trail head impressed me there was a nice parking area, even had some parking blocks, and a nice set of informational signage.
We hiked up to the saddle, explored a bit on the peak opposite the official peak (right instead of left) and then headed down. There was a group just arriving at the peak when we were headed down and we passed a couple on there way up about half way down. That's all the people we encountered outside of the camping area.
