Greg organized this hike to leave from First Water TH at 6:15 a.m. When I told him it was still dark at 6:15, Greg said to bring a flashlight. So, on we trekked, over the burned out Indian Gardens, past the IG arch on down the hill to the junction of Second Water trail and Boulder Canyon trail. The five mile mark found the cairn leading up to Battleship at the two hour mark.
We had hoped to find more cairns marking the way across the Battleship, but figured it out as we progressed. We met three young ladies as we were coming down, then a male back packer on his own working his way across the starboard side. A great reward for a couple of guys in their late 70' to make this hike. We appreciate Greg's invitation and Dennis was fun to have with us as well. The First Water road back to hwy 88 was packed with cars on the Black Friday. There were many cars coming into First Water TH as well, with a truck waiting for a parking spot as we left at about 2:15 p.m.
