| partners | | I needed another shortish one in the area so we could get back for some NYE commitments. Little Four Peaks has alway been on my list to try, but never fit in the with how short it is. I found a route from @hikerdw that's length fit the bill. I loaded the track without looking at it.
The route starts off nicely from the Willow Springs TH North, on an old horse trail that is easy to follow. Great views of the Goldfields geology.
When route Scout beeped at me to tell me I was off track, we backtracked to where David's route took us off trail, on a steep-ish route. Now, my son Ben has been on numerous off trail excursions with me before, he's a Pro. Rob and Lindsy, while in great shape, are more used to the groomed trails of North Carolina.
By the time we reached the crossover to L4P at Apache Trail, we debated if we had time to complete this out and back. We decided to put our tail between our legs and walk/run/avoid vehicles on the Apache Trail back to my car.
A less than perfect end to our week of hiking, but great to spend time in the outdoors with the kids. |
