| partners | | LP was looking for something other than South Mountain. It'd been more than 5 years since I was out here. Time to hit it again before the temps started climbing.
I was concerned about the road, in off of FR24 with with the stock low profile tires on the Subi. It's a bit rocky, but it negotiated FR1094 just fine.
Comfortably chilly at the start as we made the climb from the TH to the saddle. At the saddle you get great views down into Lime Creek and across to the prominent Sunset Mountain, Lime 3789 and beyond to the Mazzys.
If you don't like the Y-Bar Trail, you really won't like this one. There is a lot of foot watching with all the rocks. To take in the views, you need to stop.
Down in Lime Creek, the trees are beginning their transformation to green. The use trail to the cabin is flagged and more prominent than I remember. There are only a few places where you need to hop over the water in the creek.
We checked out Lime Spring. John and I decided to go looking for the source. We went up quite a ways until it dried up. After that we hopping out to the north, looking for a faster way back down. It all worked out.
We took John over to the scribbles on the rocks and then returned to the cabin to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
I let the mountain goats take the lead on the 1900' climb back to the saddle. They were nice enough to wait for me a few times. (They had no choice, I had the keys) The breeze made the climb bearable.
