| no partners | | I was looking to do a hike close to home and settled on this one.
It was an out-and-back hike up to Thompson Peak from the Adero Canyon TH in Fountain Hills. On the way out I hiked the Lower Sonoran Trail, and then took the Sonoran Trail when coming back in the Fountain Hills Preserve. The Sonoran Trail has more up-and-down than the Lower Sonoran Trail, plus you have to navigate the perilous cable section on the Sonoran Trail: [ photo ]
This hike is a pretty good workout -- it had about all the distance and elevation gain that I wanted today, especially considering how steep it is going up to Thompson Peak. On my way up the first steep section up to the peak, I met a service vehicle from the City of Scottsdale coming down the road. That is the first vehicle that I have ever seen going up or down the road.
There were not very many people out on the trail today, although as I was ascending Thompson Peak I met 8 people in 3 groups who were coming down. Other than that, there were a few random people on the trails, most of whom appeared to be snowbirds.
It was a bit warm out, but there were a few clouds around that filtered the sun, which made things more tolerable than they otherwise would be. |
