| partners | | I got an invitation from Kelly and John to join them on a hike up to Thompson Peak from Adero Canyon TH.
It was 44 degrees at the 6:45 start, with a bit of a breeze. I had a hat and gloves on for the first 20 minutes or so. The pace these two gazelles set warmed me quickly.
We were lucky enough to enjoy a gorgeous sunrise.
Kelly suggested the Upper Sonoran Trail on the way out since it's a bit more of a workout.
We hit Thompson Peak Road and noticed that Arivipa Running had a checkpoint for a 50-mile event that was going on.
Now the fun begins. The climb has not gotten any less steep. I gave Kelly and John a head start and would meet them at the top.
At the top, we took a brief break in the rare calm breeze.
I was able to dry off on the retreat from the top. We hit up the Lower Sonoran Trail on the way back. All of these trails back here are in impeccable shape. It's almost like they sweep them every day.
We finished with temperatures in the upper 50s, an absolutely perfect weather day. Thanks for the invite, guys. Great hiking with you again and catching up. |
