I parked at the gate just off of I-17 to make my way across Black Mesa. The plan was to find four geocaches, though, with the fire last year, I didn't know if they survived.

I turned north at the cabin, but should have turned north farther east. The whole mesa is scorched though, so it was no big deal to walk across to the first geocache as there was no brush to worry about. The first cache survived the fire, as did the second. The third, near a ruin on the NE end of the mesa didn't.

It was nice not having to worry about brush and cactus and grass and such so the walking was easy. The ground is covered with seed so I think, come spring and some rain, the grass will come back quickly.

After not finding the third cache, I went and checked out the ruin. This was a good sized complex, there are lots of rooms and the walls are very distinguishable with a good view of the Agua Fria Canyon and Badger Spring Wash. Several of the walls on the east were red from fire retardant.

After the ruins, I headed to the south towards Richinbar Mine. I didn't visit the mine ruins but instead went to a set of petroglyphs on a promontory then dropped down a ways to find the fourth cache. The fire seems to have missed the mining complex and this area. From there, I headed back along the road to parking.
