Was really really hoping to see a bear today especially after being teased about carrying bear spray, well turns out they were deterred so well they stayed out of sight Also received grief about bringing 3 hiking poles . Before the steeper portion of See trail nature is trying to reclaim it , ferns and locust are overgrown, had a couple of scratches to show for it. Upper portion of See is quite a workout, if you thought a 15 mile and 6k aeg hike already this week would slow down the energizer bunny you would be wrong but putting me in the lead did , I almost had a mishap with some deadfall along here too but only resulting in shoulder pain rest of the hike that’s better today . Nice views with a snack break on the rim edge before reaching the campground, while in that area @LindaAnn pointed out an odd thinning procedure the FS is using, cutting down the healthy trees and leaving the dead ones After the break I tried to get a head start by asking her to count tree rings on one of the recently cut trees but it didn’t stump her, good thing as I realized I didn’t know the route. Drew was for me the ideal trail to descend on plus shade and a breeze for a bonus, Highline was in good shape but there were portions unshaded and it was getting warm near the end. New loop for me and a great hike made better by marvelous company! |
