I've been wanting to hike in the Blue Range for awhile now but with it being a 5 hour drive it's tough to get over there. Got to the Bill Bonanza TH about 8:30 Sunday night, setup the air matress in the 4Runner and slept at the TH. This is an awesome trail through the pines with just a bit of elevation coming out of the creek. The Cow Canyon fire was in the area last year, however a good amount of the pines were okay down low, a bit worse up on top. Hiked over to Hinkle Spring and the corral, got followed by some pissed off cows and started back out. About a mile and a half from the TH I heard the first boom of thunder so I picked up my pace and fortunately nothing came my way. It was a little humid but not to horrible with temps in the low 70's. Came across tons of elk including a group of about 30 of them and almost hit a turkey on the way out. This is a beautiful area and I will definately be back to the Blue. |
