First couple of miles were blah with the fire damaged vegetation. Once in about 2 miles the scenery improved with some tree foliage color and running water, along with the cool temps was feeling a New England hiking vibe. Decided to head into Telegraph Canyon and the pleasant scenery continued, went in until a little over 4 miles from the trail head and decided to turn back and enjoy Arnett Creek again instead of completing the circumference. Was glad to see my favorite section of Saguaros in Telegraph Canyon were not touched by the fire. Decided to add a loop around the Perlite Mines before dropping back into Arnett Canyon. Spent a lot of time picture taking and rockhounding today. Not too busy as I saw about 10 other hikers , no horses seen either but some sections of the trail were muddy and torn up from the horse traffic. Took a short section of the LOST #219 back to the trail head impressive trail building with steps at least 20 carved into the rock. |
