| partners | | | Red Tanks and Upper La Barge have been high on my list for awhile now and with me feeling better after my COVID bout it 'appeared' the stars had aligned for me to hike this area this past Saturday. The plan was to hike Whitlow Canyon to Coffee Flat, up the Dutchman to Whiskey Springs, down to upper La Barge, down Red Tanks divide, through Randolph Canyon and back to the truck. That was the plan anyways. Met up with Andy at 4am and arrived at Buzzards Roost at 5am. A little bit of wind and light rain as we started off in the dark. Made great time getting to Coffee Flat, then the wheels started to fall off. It started with a cough, then another and another and pretty soon I could barely breathe. We met up with the rest of the group at the Coffee Flat/Dutchman junction and after sitting for a couple minutes trying to catch my breath, I made the decision to turn around and head back to the truck. I told Andy to continue on and I made the hike back to the truck. After still not being able to breath after the hike, I checked myself into the E.R. and found out that I have a severe case of bronchitis. I still got 10 miles in and saw a beautiful sunrise but did not get to see the area I was hoping for. Live to hike another day I guess. |
