| no partners | | Since I hiked the western Superstitions on Friday, figured it was time to move east yesterday. Had a couple different places in mind, but decided to head out to Miles TH to hike West Pinto. I've hiked West Pinto past Oak Flat before but I was looking to take it all the way to the Silver Spur Cabin area to knock out some mileage I hadn't done before. No cars at Miles when I got there at sun up and it was a scorching 32 degrees! I wont get in to the hike prior to Oak Flat as I just hiked it 2 months ago. Nothings changed, the trail has mostly eroded away and it's a walk in the creek. At Oak Flat, started the uphill section which wasn't to bad, minor erosion but the trail was pretty clear. Once I got to the top, it was a mess. Eroded and overgrown on the majority of it with some of that being thorny bushes. After about a mile of this I had enough and threw in the towel and turned back. Hiked back down hill, checked out where the old corral "used" to be and started back. Ran into a group of 4 day hikers on the way out, otherwise that was it for the day. Stopped for a snack in a nice riparian area by the water before making it back to the truck. |
