| partners | | It was my daughter’s choice for the hike this weekend, so we took Bright Angel down to the river at Pipe Creek Beach.
Started a little after 0600. Cool, mid 20s, but not too bad with minimal breeze. Some ice on the upper mile and a half, but we didn’t need traction. I’m guessing that’ll be a different story in a few days after this next storm moves through.
Took a few breaks on the way down, then shed some layers once below Indian Gardens. Hung out at the river and had a snack while Reagan played in the water.
Toasty hike up the first couple of miles. Saw one person hauling their little dog around in a backpack carrier. Toasty again after Indian Gardens until we got into the shade after about a mile or so. The rest of the hike out was pleasantly cool in the shade.
Saw a helicopter rescuing/recovering someone who seemed to have gone over the edge of the rim. They lowered a rescuer, then picked both him and the rescuee up a few minutes later. Hopefully it was a rescue and not a recovery.
My daughter was a little tired for the last mile or so, but she still kept a pretty good pace out. Fun day with her, and almost perfect weather for this one. |
