| partners | | I had put together a few options in the Mormon Mountain area following the forecast to a part of the state with a bit less of a chance of rain than some others. I've only done this one in the snow before, so I was looking forward to seeing it under summer conditions.
Somehow I spaced the start, and we headed out from Double Springs instead of Dairy Springs!
It turned out to be a nice warmup along the AZT before connecting to the main trail that climbs the mountain. The top really is enjoyable and I led the others over to the north slope with views of the volcanic field.
We headed down via the road for a bit before heading off trail to connect some interesting tanks, parks, and canyons.
It began to rain as we enjoyed a lunch snack but didn't last too long and we continued on our route. The next shower brought more thunder and some lightning in the area. It didn't appear to be an isolated storm, so I made the decision to cut our day short, picking the quickest route back toward the car. The storm continued until about when we finished, and then it predictably began to clear up .
I'm not sure I'd go back and explore more tomorrow, but it is a nice part of the world, and I'll definitely put some more miles under my feet in the surrounding area sometime in the future. |
