| partners | | I got an invite from Chums to hit up Mormon Mountain. Other than passing by on the AZT 12 years ago in 2010, I have done nothing around Mormon Mountain. So this was a treat. Also joining was 9L and his friend Jesse.
We started from the Double Springs TH and made our way to the AZT #29 and over to the Mormon Mountain Trail #58 to start the climb. 2 miles and 1,100' of AEG get you to the top. Another mile gets you to the high point just north of the towers, with excellent views of the Anderson Mesa and the peaks in Flag. We had an extended snack and continued on our loop.
We had some downhill FR walking and a bit of offtrail to get to Mud Spring/Tank.
The clouds had been building and starting to rumble. We took some lunch. As we were finishing up the others dawned their rain gear. The Norwegian known as Chums, turned into Chumalea with his unique outfit. The FR's became quite slippery with the steady rainfall. At some point, Chumalea in the lead thankfully cut us short and we were in horse to the barn mode. On the way back we did pass one remnant of the old logging railroad bed out there.
Much more to check out in the area. Good to get another hike in with Frick and Frack and no meet Jesse. She was wet early on but dried out later on.
Thanks Chums for coming up with the options and driving |
