Dutchman
Easy walking along the trickling creek. Clouds suppressed the sunrise. 5 backpackers in the general Caballo Camp area.
Bull Pass
Last time I was on here, it was 5+ years ago when @reynchr and I explored the markings up top. Trail got steeper since. A group of backpackers were coming down, they probably had an epic evening view. Eastern half of the trail was downright magical.
Terrapin
Trail maintenance since the last time I was out here, made for a painless climb. A few sprinkles. Enjoyed some coffee & oatmeal on top. Several groups of day hikers, likely doing the Needle Loop.
Bluff Springs
Lots of water, always makes for some extra fun. Stopped by the actual spring to scout it out. It was the least appealing water source of the day, which is too bad, as its also one of the more reliable.
Dutchman (again)
The section going down is one of my least favorite in the Supes. Next time I may try the creek. Anyways, easy going, and once I got to La Barge the dial cranked up to 11. Only saw one group down here, otherwise it was just me in my happy place, crossing the flowing creek a dozen times and enjoying the greenery. Can't wait to get my kids this deep in the wilderness for an overnight.
Calvary
The first two miles were new to me, pretty cool extension of the La Barge awesomes. A bit swampy, sure, still cool. Little hike through Red Hills really makes you appreciate the massiveness of Malapais.
Boulder
Lots and lots of water, made the crossings quite challenging. Also, lots of people, at least two groups over 10.
Second Water
A few muddy spots, otherwise easy walking. I just wanted to get home and eat real food by now, so it passed quickly.
Trail conditions are perfect, didn't get a single scratch all day. Flowers and greenery probably needs another week or two with all the cold snaps, there's water for them, they just need some more sun and warmth. |
