| no partners | | Arrived at the Lost Goldmine East Trailhead around 1600. It was overcast, 60-70°, with intermittent rain sprinkles.
The Carney Springs Trail was a nice climb with great views. The drainage at the top was flowing pretty well, over 12 inches deep at some parts. The route to Robber's Roost involved a lot of route finding, with intermittent use trails, a lot of off-trail hiking, and some scrambling. At one point I followed a series of cairns north, scrambling up to a ridgeline, but discovered that I was way off route, heading further from Robber's Roost, so I had to backtrack.
Robber's Roost is dope. Climbed down and hung out there for a minute. After that, it was nice to have a defined trail to Fremont Saddle. Cave Trail had some steep downclimbs which were pretty gnarly with the wet rocks, especially since it was somewhat dark at this point. Peralta Creek was flowing strongly. Overall fun loop with excellent views and a few rough parts. Will definitely do again, but need to start earlier. |
