| no partners | | I decided to do my "go to" summertime hike today to check out the wildflowers. Things are still looking good on the wildflower front.
There is lots of brittlebush right now, and maybe 10% or so of it is drying out, but the rest is still in peak form. Fiddlenecks are gone and blue richards are mostly gone. Lupine is past prime, but owl clover is still mostly looking good. There was lots of fairy duster and strawberry hedgehog, and globemallow is finally making a strong appearance. I saw one staghorn chollas with 2 yellow blooms on it; there should be lots of this out there before long.
On my way back, I saw a desert tortoise in the middle of the trail. I don't often see them out there. |

Wildflowers Observation Substantial Wildflowers are still strong in this area. Brittlebush was the clear winner of the wildflower derby today, but fairy duster made an impressive showing and globemallow finally made a good appearance. |
